We will spend 4 nights and 5 days on this tour, exploring fascinating villages and landscapes via foot, boat, and train. Direct access by car is not possible, so we will use the excellent rail service to easily move between the villages.

We will stay in a lovely four star hotel, superbly located just a few minutes from the national park with an excellent selection of restaurants and easy access to the other villages, it is the perfect base for our tour.

We will focus upon the five villages (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore), as well as nearby Portovenere, accessible by boat. A walking trail, the “Sentiero Azzuro”, connects the five villages and the paths out of these provide the perfect spots for dramatic views of the villages and coastline.

We will be shooting quaint villages, vibrant colours, traditional piazzas, terraced vineyards, rugged coastline and tiny harbours and of course stunning sunrises, sunsets and blue hour shots.

Our tour is timed for April when the region enjoys warm spring weather and fewer tourists.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The small group size means that I can spend quality time with each person to help with whatever aspect of their photography they wish to improve.

We’ll discuss the settings and workflow for tripod based shots and for hand held travel shooting. How to use the light and how to expose correctly including, metering modes, understanding histograms and how to use them. How to capture wide dynamic range scenes and how to bracket exposures. We’ll discuss focusing methods to either achieve front to back sharpness or the more creative use of limited depth of field. We’ll look at when and how to use filters, how to shoot panorama’s and try some creative techniques such as multiple exposures and ICM. Of course no tuition would be complete without discussing composition, the one thing that the camera can’t do for us!

In addition to great photographic opportunities on this tour we will have time for photo sharing and critiques. Should we encounter really inclement weather, that’s no problem, I will show you how I post process in Lightroom & Photoshop.

Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. I cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the breath-taking region of Cinque Terre!

GROUP SIZE

This tour is limited to a maximum of six people, allowing me to spend time with each participant.

Level of physical difficulty: Easy to Moderate

In order to reach the best vantage points, in some villages, we will be walking up and down steep, narrow and uneven coastal paths for approx. 15-20 minutes. Participants will need to be able to carry their camera gear and tripod to these locations.

Cinque Terre is just over an hour by train north of Pisa which is the most convenient airport to use. There is a direct line from Pisa Centrale to La Spezia where we will be based. Details will be confirmed on receipt of your booking. Please do not book flights until advised.
