With its dazzling white houses, blue-domed churches, twisting alleyways and hilltop windmills, Santorini is Greece at its traditional best. Famous for its stunning sunsets, sweeping wide vistas across the dramatic caldera and beautiful architectural detail, it's no wonder that this island is on the bucket list for so many photographers.
Join me for a wonderful photography tour to this enchanting, magical island.
Our tour is timed for early May when the island enjoys warm weather and fewer tourists.
We will stay in a lovely, family run hotel in the bustling village of Fira. An ideal location in the centre of the island and within walking distance of fantastic viewpoints across the dramatic caldera.
During the tour we will be spending much of our time in the four very different towns and villages of Fira, Firostephani, Imerovigli and Oia as well as visiting other interesting locations on this stunning island. We will explore quaint traditional villages, hilltop churches, dramatic coastline and ancient archaeological sites.
In order to make the most of the beautiful sunrises, sunsets and blue hours, we will be out photographing at dawn and dusk. We'll also have some free time to allow you to relax and enjoy the delights of the island.
The atmosphere will be informal and friendly and in the evenings we’ll enjoy traditional Greek food and excellent local wines.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
The small group size means that I can spend quality time with each person to help with whatever aspect of their photography they wish to improve.
We’ll discuss the settings and workflow for tripod based shots and for hand held travel shooting. How to use the light and how to expose correctly including, metering modes, understanding histograms and how to use them. How to capture wide dynamic range scenes and how to bracket exposures. We’ll discuss focusing methods to either achieve front to back sharpness or the more creative use of limited depth of field. We’ll look at when and how to use filters, how to shoot panorama’s and try some creative techniques such as multiple exposures and ICM. Of course no tuition would be complete without discussing composition, the one thing that the camera can’t do for us!
In addition to great photographic opportunities on this tour we will have time for photo sharing and critiques. Should we encounter really inclement weather, that’s no problem, I will show you how I post process in Lightroom & Photoshop.
Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. I cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the breath-taking island of Santorini!

This tour is limited to a maximum of 6 people, so book early to avoid disappointment.
EXPERIENCE | DIFFICULTY
Level of physical difficulty: Moderate
The towns on Santorini are built on the edge of a caldera and there are some steep streets and alleyways. Participants will need to be able to carry their camera gear and tripod up and down these streets.

The preferred flight is Easyjet from Manchester to Santorini. Details will be confirmed on receipt of your booking. You can of course travel from any airport of your choice. Please do not book your flights until advised.
